The National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) was established in 2004 as a programme under the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MoHSW) Mainland and Zanzibar. It was established through a cooperative agreement entered into by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MoHSW) Mainland and Zanzibar.
