Jamii Media is an online Media company, which hosts the most popular website in the region - JamiiForums (JamiiForums.com) and FikraPevu (FikraPevu.com) which is an online news portal.

Jamii Media is looking for two Investigative Journalists who can cover and report serious and sensitive issues on its online portal of FikraPevu in conceiving and executing ambitious, original and creative stories that hold the powerful accountable.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills


  •     Aged limit: 27-45 years
  •     A demonstrated ability to encourage, inspire and motivate fellow reporters to dig deeper and tell compelling, clear, fair-minded investigative and impactful stories
  •     Experience with and knowledge of computer-assisted reporting (CAR) and informed about current data tools.
  •     Must have a proven track record in shepherding impactful, clear and creatively presented stories, be deeply curious
  •     Bachelor's degree. (Preferably in Education, Mass Communication, Journalism or related field)
  •     Minimum 2 years of membership on JamiiForums.
  •     Very good command of English and Swahili languages; English proofreading is a plus.
  •     Demonstrated knowledge of investigative journalism fundamentals, and expertise in data journalism;
  •     A proven digital track record and desire to embrace digital experimentation, including engaging with colleagues and customers via social media.
  •     Familiarity with developing media environments in East Africa, including threats to professional journalists working in the region
  •     Experience obtaining, scrutinizing and analyzing public records and data to drive investigative stories, including preferably familiarity with data-analysis tools and aptitude to expand those skills.
  •     MUST strive for impartiality and be accurate, for publishing untrue or libelous statements can lead to expensive lawsuits

Essential Duties
  •     Research, report and write high-impact national investigative stories and off-the-news enterprise and data-driven stories for publication and airing across the network.
  •     Show initiative to identify and pursue original investigative story ideas that meet the team’s standards of being revelatory, impactful, important and interesting.
  •     Produce at least two major stories per week, as determined with the program director and/or editorial team, and multiple shorter, quick-hits per week.
  •     Develop deep expertise in research using available data and public records tools.
  •     Continually develop and build on data-driven journalism skills, including taking advantage of in-house and external training opportunities and on-the-job training. This includes developing advanced skills with Excel and basic data visualization tools.
  •     Represent Jamii Media professionally on TV, radio, and in other media, and at public events and social gatherings.
  •     Abide by, and uphold, the company’s ethical and journalistic standards in all reporting.
  •     To bring to our attention stuff that matters. To uncover that which people in power would like to keep secret for their own gain and the detriment of society.
