Position: Registered Nurse

Job summary
We are looking for highly motivated Registered Nurses who will be working in a Hemodialysis Centre providing nursing care to patients, collaborating with physicians and team members to provide the best service to patients.
Prior-experience in hemodialysis is not required, just a willingness to learn. Successful candidates will be given a comprehensive theoretical and practical training in hemodialysis.

Location of work: Arusha / Moshi

Qualifications Required
• Diploma in Nursing
• License to Practice from the Tanzania Nursing and Widwifery Council

Duties and responsibilities
• Sets up and operates dialysis machines to provide dialysis treatment for patients;
• Mixes dialysate, according to formula;
• Primes dialyzer with saline or heparinized solution to prepare machine for use;
• Takes and records patient’s predialysis weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse rate, and respiration rate;
• Explains dialysis procedure and operation of hemodialysis machine to patient before treatment to allay anxieties;
• Connects hemodialysis machine to access in patient’s forearm or catheter site to start blood circulating through dialyzer;
• Inspects equipment settings, including pressures, conductivity, and temperature to ensure conformance to safety standards;
• Starts blood flow pump at prescribed rate;
• Inspects venous and arterial pressures as registered on equipment to ensure pressures are within established limits;
• Calculates fluid removal or replacement to be achieved during dialysis procedure;
• Monitors patient for adverse reaction and hemodialysis machine for malfunction;
• Taking care of R.O. System and its regular maintenance activities;
• Monitors stock for expiration dates, quantity, consumption, etc.;
• Other duties as assigned;
• Handle other team members in a very efficient and friendly manner.

Nursing Officer (1 Post)


Reporting to the Clinical Coordinator, the Nurse Officer is responsible for clinical care to SCD patients and clinical data collection.

Specific Responsibilities
· Give health education to SCD patients , parents and guardians
· Perform pretest counseling to SCD patients , parents and guardians
· Supervising and assisting mothers in labour,
· Participate in DBS collection and storage for NBS screening
· Participate in filing of NBS CRF s
· Perform post test counseling to SCD patients , parents and guardians
· Supervise proper vital sign measurements and recording for SCD patients

· Organization of Outpatient clinics for SCD patients

JOB TITLE: Research Nurses – HIV Clinical Research (4 Posts)

The department of HIV Clinical Research of the NIMR - Mbeya Medical Research Centre is looking for a research nurse, who supports the implementation of projects and research activities in the field of HIV/AIDS

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The candidate will support the implementation of all projects of the department under supervision of the Head of Department and respective Principal Investigators of the studies reporting to the Nurse In Charge. 
In the context of the practical implementation of the research projects, he/she will take up responsibilities of a study nurse, including administering informed consent procedures, patient questionnaires, conducting and documenting study specific procedures and obtaining study specific bio-specimen. The candidate is further expected to be involved in the routine management of the patients seen at Mbeya Referral Hospital, with specific focus on treatment experienced patients and the National Cervical Carcinoma Screening Program.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A suitable candidate should:

  • Holder of diploma in nursing from reputable organization
  • S/he must be a registered nurse 
  • Have an interest to be involved in treatment and care of HIV positive patients both on an in-patient and out-patient level as much as practical activities of the National Cervical Carcinoma Screening Program. 
  • Have interest to pursue a career in clinical research in Tanzania, preferably documented by previous involvement in research projects of any kind. 
  • Preferably have at least one year work experience with focus on internal medicine/HIV or Obstetrics and Gynaecology. 
  • Further formal training in HIV (e.g. counselling  treatment literacy, PMTCT, PITC) would be an asset.

  • High degree of commitment
  • Developed Communication skills 
  • Results orientation – ability to meet deadlines with competing priorities.
  • Willing to work independently in a multidisciplinary team.
